Hillel Lodge: Fostering Jewish Culture and Community Connections

The Bess and Moe Greenberg Family Hillel Lodge Long-Term Care Home of Ottawa (Hillel Lodge), located on the Jewish Community Campus in Ottawa, benefits from its position within a vibrant hub for Jewish life and services. This campus houses several key organizations, including the Soloway Jewish Community Centre (Soloway JCC), the Jewish Federation of Ottawa (Federation), and The Ottawa Jewish Community School (OJCS). Together, these institutions foster community and cultural identity through a variety of social, educational, and religious programs, making it a central point for Jewish life in the city.

Being on the Jewish Community Campus enables Hillel Lodge to engage in intergenerational programs with students from the OJCS and participants from the Early Beginnings Multicultural Child Development Centre and Soloway JCC summer camps. These interactions foster valuable connections and enhance the quality of life for our residents.

The Jewish community plays a vital role in supporting Hillel Lodge, enriching the lives of our residents through various events and initiatives. One notable example is the annual Biking for Bubbies and Zaidies fundraiser organized by the Hillel Lodge LTC Foundation, which brings together community members to support our residents. Similarly, the Great Games Event, organized by the Auxiliary of Hillel Lodge, promotes camaraderie and raises essential funds for our programs and services.

Recently, the community united to support the creation of the beautiful Dream Garden, inaugurated in June 2024. This garden provides residents with a serene space to enjoy nature and participate in horticultural programs, enhancing their well-being and connection to the environment.

Hillel Lodge thrives due to the dedication of community volunteers and donors, along with ongoing support from the Hillel Lodge Long-Term Care Foundation, the Auxiliary of Hillel Lodge, the Jewish Federation of Ottawa, and the Ottawa Jewish Community Foundation. Each phase of the Lodge’s development reflects the community’s commitment to volunteerism and philanthropy.
