The Auxiliary of Hillel Lodge’s mission is both simple and meaningful: we are dedicated to enhancing the lives of our residents and making each day a little brighter. Operating autonomously, we provide essential services and raise funds to support the many extras that bring comfort and happiness to our community.

Sixty Years of Dedication

The Auxiliary is all about 'Caring in the Community' and in 2025, celebrates its 60th anniversary. Guided by the commandment to, "Honour Thy Father and Thy Mother," a caring Jewish community member, Helen Beiles created the Auxiliary in 1965 to provide the extras that make a residence feel more like a home.

Auxiliary President Fran Ross highlights that all members are volunteers dedicated to positively impacting residents' lives. “Our enthusiasm drives fundraising efforts for important projects, as provincial funding is insufficient. We view residents as family and value their feedback while actively engaging in Lodge activities.”

Who Are We?

We are a committed group of energetic volunteers who invest our time and passion to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our efforts are centered on celebrating special moments throughout the year, including birthdays, Mother's Day, Father's Day, and cherished Jewish holidays such as Sukkot, Chanukah, Purim, and Pesach.

How Do We Help?

Our support manifests in various ways:

  • In-Person Visits: Bringing companionship and stimulation to our residents.
  • Flowers on Shabbat: Adding beauty and warmth to the dining room environment.
  • Gifts for Mother's Day and Father's Day: Celebrating our loved ones with thoughtful gestures.
  • Bingo: Providing excitement and prizes at bingo games.
  • Fish Tanks: Adding vibrancy to the atmosphere.
  • Annual Tea Party: A delightful afternoon for residents and Auxiliary members to mingle over tea and treats in a friendly atmosphere.

Every year, the Auxiliary contributes to specific projects such as:

  • The Lodge’s Dream Garden: A beautiful outdoor space for residents to enjoy nature.
  • Refurbishment of neighborhood living rooms: Creating hospitable spaces for relaxation and connection.
  • Bed and bath lifts: Improving accessibility for our residents.
  • Comfortable armchairs for residents’ rooms.

Contribute to our fundraising efforts:

Annual Telethon

The Auxiliary’s Annual Telethon is our primary fundraising event, organized by hard working volunteers whose passion serves to enhance the lives of our residents. Kicking off in early May and continuing through the summer months, this initiative has funded essential projects over the years.

Great Games Event

Join us Sunday, October 18th for a fun-filled afternoon playing your favourite game at the Great Games Event 2026.
